Heart of the Winterland Review

It’s time for an update to my reading challenge. Book seven in my reading challenge, a book published this year, is done!

Heart of the Winterland by Kristen Kooistra is a young adult fantasy adventure novel about Cali, the princess of Trabor, who is all alone in a snowbound country. Her only companion is Voice, an orb created by magic who takes care of her. For 200 years, she has never wondered why she is the only person in the entire kingdom. But on her 2ooth birthday, something changes within her, and she ventures out to explore the world.

Along the way, she meets Angel, a mysterious fugitive, and must help her new friend escape Captain Kota, who is hunting Angel for Duke Bludgaard’s collection. And Cali finds more than she bargained for when she realizes that Captain Kota has no qualms about killing her, too!

This is a phenomenal book – the best one I’ve read for this challenge so far – and I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new, refreshing voice in the world of fiction.
